In short: we want everyone to be able to use homeenergyquotes.co.uk, whatever technology they use. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, and if something gets in your way we want to hear about it.
This statement
This accessibility statement applies to homeenergyquotes.co.uk, published by Home Energy Quotes Ltd. It covers the whole site: the guides, the location pages, the blog, the free tools and the quote and grant forms.
How accessible the site is
The site is built so that you can:
- navigate every page and use every control, including the tools and the quote and grant forms, with a keyboard alone;
- read text at high contrast — the main text is dark ink on a pale background at a contrast ratio above 15:1, and links are underlined;
- zoom to at least 200% or set your own text size without losing content or having to scroll sideways;
- use a screen reader — pages have a single main heading, a logical heading order, landmarks for navigation and content, labelled form fields and text alternatives for meaningful images;
- understand what each link does from its text;
- turn off the one moving element on the homepage, a slowly scrolling strip of topics, by enabling your device’s “reduce motion” setting;
- use the site on any screen size, including phones, without content being cut off.
There are no time limits, no auto-playing audio or video, and no content that flashes.
Known limitations
We know about the following and are working through them:
- The map on each location page is an image. It has a text alternative naming the area, but the map detail itself is not available to screen readers. The surrounding text describes the location.
- Some older articles have images whose text alternatives are generic rather than descriptive. We are correcting these as pages are reviewed.
- The cookie banner is provided by a third-party component. It is keyboard-operable, but its styling and structure are not entirely under our control.
- Data tables on the tools pages scroll sideways on small screens. They remain readable, but the scrolling region is not announced by every screen reader.
- The quote and grant forms are multi-step. Each step is announced with its progress, but if you prefer, you can give us the same details by phone on 0333 344 1115 instead.
How we test
We check the site with automated accessibility tools and by hand — keyboard-only navigation, browser zoom, and spot checks with a screen reader — each time we change the design. We have not yet commissioned a formal external audit; when we do, we will publish the results here.
Tell us about a problem
If you find something you cannot use, or you need any of our information in a different format, email sales@homeenergyquotes.co.uk or call 0333 344 1115 and tell us the page and what went wrong. We aim to reply within two working days and to fix genuine barriers quickly.
If you are not satisfied
The Equality Act 2010 requires us to make reasonable adjustments for disabled people. If you contact us about an accessibility problem and are not happy with our response, you can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS), which can advise on your rights: equalityadvisoryservice.com, telephone 0808 800 0082.
