Tesla Powerwall alternatives UK 2026: five batteries worth a look

Quick answer: You don’t need to spend £7,400 to £9,000 on an installed Powerwall 3. The Sigenergy SigenStor (from about £6,995 installed for 13kWh) is the strongest all-round alternative, Fox ESS’s EVO is the value pick, and Enphase’s IQ Battery 5P suits microinverter homes. GivEnergy left the market in April 2026.

Why look past the Powerwall 3?

Tesla’s battery earned its position. You get 13.5kWh of usable storage, 11.04kW of continuous output on the UK version and a built-in solar inverter, for a typical installed price of £7,395 to £8,995 according to Heatable’s 2026 price guide. For plenty of homes it’s still the right answer.

But it has limits. The Powerwall comes in one capacity, 13.5kWh, and power-cut backup needs the separate Backup Gateway. If you only need 8kWh, you’re overpaying. How do the five alternatives compare?

Prices here are indicative installed or supply figures from retailer price guides, checked August 2026. Every install is priced after a survey, so treat them as a starting point.

Sigenergy figures are from Heatable and Solar4Good; Fox from Fox ESS UK and Solar4Good’s Fox review; Enphase pricing from Solar Trade Sales; SolaX and Alpha figures from Heatable’s battery price table. At the bottom end, a 13kWh SigenStor undercuts an installed Powerwall 3 by about £400, and you pick your capacity.

Which alternative suits which buyer?

• Heavy usage, EV on the drive: the SigenStor. Its optional DC charging module (from £3,500) can charge a car straight from the battery, and charging is bi-directional, so the car can work as an extra home battery.
• Best value all-in-one: the Fox ESS EVO. 10.24kWh with a 12-year warranty and EPS backup included, from one of the most-installed brands in the UK.
• Enphase microinverters on the roof: the IQ Battery 5P. It slots into the same app and ecosystem, with a 15-year warranty.
• Tight budget, modest usage: SolaX Triple Power or Alpha ESS G3. Cheap per kWh, fewer frills. Our budget battery brands review covers this end of the market.

Warranty is where the budget options give ground: SolaX’s Triple Power carries five years against Fox’s twelve and Enphase’s fifteen. A cheap battery that dies in year eight isn’t cheap. And before you pick a brand, work out how many kWh you actually need; buying more capacity than you’ll cycle is the classic quoting mistake.

What happened to GivEnergy?

A year ago the GivEnergy All in One would have led this list. Not now. GivEnergy Ltd entered administration on 9 April 2026, ceased trading, and its hardware warranties are no longer being honoured, as reported by Energy Storage News. The app and portal keep running through a separate software company, and installed units keep working.

Which would we pick?

For a typical three-bed home wanting 10 to 15kWh of storage, the SigenStor is the buy. It matches or undercuts the Powerwall on price per kWh, adds capacity choice and instant backup, and the EV module is genuinely useful if you drive electric. The trade-off is a manufacturer founded in 2022, so you’re betting on a young company staying around.

If that bet makes you uncomfortable, the Fox EVO gives you a 12-year warranty from a high-volume brand for less money. And the Powerwall 3 remains a fine, safe choice with the biggest installer network. Our home battery comparison puts the whole field side by side.

Whichever way you lean, get quotes on at least two of these systems rather than one. Installers carry different brands at different margins, and the same 10kWh of storage can come back £1,500 apart. Are Powerwall alternatives cheaper?

Usually, per kWh. Fox systems run £3,500 to £9,500 installed and a 13kWh SigenStor starts around £6,995. Enphase is the exception: at roughly £576 per kWh for the hardware alone, it costs more than some rivals’ installed systems.

Can I add one of these to my existing solar panels?

Yes. AC-coupled options like the Enphase 5P sit alongside your existing inverter untouched. All-in-one hybrids such as the SigenStor and Fox EVO include their own inverter, so your installer will advise whether your current one stays in the system.

Do home batteries still get 0% VAT?

Yes. Battery storage installed in a home is zero-rated for VAT until 31 March 2027, whether it’s fitted with solar or on its own. After that the rate is due to revert, so the window matters if you’re on the fence.
