Tesla Powerwall 3 vs GivEnergy All in One: what changed in 2026

solar-panels-312

Quick answer: This stopped being an even contest on 9 April 2026, when GivEnergy Ltd entered administration. Both are 13.5kWh LFP systems. The Powerwall 3 discharges at up to 11.04kW against 3.6kW on the widely sold All in One, and its 10-year warranty is backed by a trading company. GivEnergy’s 12-year term isn’t.

We haven’t tested either unit. This comes from Tesla’s UK Powerwall 3 datasheet, GivEnergy distributor listings, and reporting on the administration, all checked on 28 July 2026. We have separate long-form reviews of the Tesla Powerwall 3 and the GivEnergy range.

What happened to GivEnergy

GivEnergy gave notice of intention to appoint an administrator on 7 April 2026 and entered administration on 9 April, with Christopher Brooksbank of CB Business Recovery appointed through the High Court of Justice in Leeds. The company ceased trading and staff were made redundant. At its peak it held around 35% of the UK residential battery market. So this is the largest failure the sector has seen here.

The UK Energy Storage Association’s guidance was blunt: GivEnergy warranties can only be enforced against GivEnergy itself, so closure prevents future claims. Customers were pointed towards their original installer, and towards Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 where the purchase went on a credit card. The administrator’s proposals recorded unsecured creditors owed more than £17m. When we checked again in September 2026, no buyer had been announced.

Two pieces of better news. The hardware is self-contained, so installed systems keep charging and discharging without any connection to the manufacturer. And GivEnergy Software Ltd, which runs the app and portal, is a separate company that is not in administration, so monitoring has continued. We set out what owners should do in what happens when your battery manufacturer goes bust.

Read the discharge row twice. 11.04kW against 3.6kW isn’t a marginal difference. It’s the difference between running an oven and a heat pump through a power cut and tripping out when the kettle goes on. If whole-home backup matters to you, the Powerwall 3 is in a different class, and always was.

The Tesla charge rate is the counterpoint. Maximum continuous charge is configurable up to 5kW, so filling 13.5kWh from a cheap overnight window takes the better part of three hours. Fine on a five-hour off-peak slot. Not so fine on a shorter one.

Price

Octopus Energy is the main UK route to a Powerwall 3. Its published April 2026 prices, still showing in late July, start at £6,663 for a two-panel solar install without a battery and run to £11,115 for its most popular package, twelve panels with a 10kWh battery. A Powerwall 3 expansion pack adds 13.5kWh for £3,773 if it goes in at the same time, or £5,909 retrofitted later, up to three packs per unit. GivEnergy pricing is now academic for new buyers, because there’s no manufacturer behind it.

Set those against our modelled estimate of £5,200 for a fitted battery in Britain, with a range of roughly £3,380 to £8,060. That’s our model, not a quote, and Octopus’s numbers bundle solar in with the storage so they aren’t directly comparable. What you’re paying for on the Tesla side is the 11.04kW output and the integrated solar inverter. See how we calculate costs.

One more thing about the Tesla warranty before you treat it as the safe option. The UK datasheet states that the Powerwall 3 must be reliably connected to the internet to secure the full ten years. That’s a milder condition than Huawei’s, which voids the advanced ten of its fifteen years after six months offline. But it’s still a condition, and still a promise that depends on a company continuing to exist. GivEnergy’s twelve years looked safer than Tesla’s ten right up until April.

Our verdict

If you’re buying today, buy the Powerwall 3 or another battery from a manufacturer that’s still trading. That isn’t a slight on GivEnergy’s engineering, which was competitive and widely liked. It’s a straightforward point about who answers the phone in year seven.

If you already own a GivEnergy system, do nothing dramatic. It works, the app works, and ripping out a functioning battery to buy peace of mind is an expensive way to feel better. Talk to your original installer about who now handles faults, and check whether Section 75 applies to how you paid.

For everything else on the market, our home battery comparison and the battery storage guide are the place to start, and the sizing guide will stop you overbuying.

FAQs

Will my GivEnergy battery stop working?

No. The hardware charges and discharges without any link to the manufacturer, and the app and portal are run by a separate company that is not in administration.

Can I still claim on a GivEnergy warranty?

Not against GivEnergy Ltd. The UK Energy Storage Association’s guidance is that those warranties are enforceable only against the company itself. Speak to your installer, and check Section 75 if you paid by credit card.

Is the Powerwall 3 warranty conditional?

Tesla’s UK datasheet states the Powerwall 3 must be reliably connected to the internet to secure the full 10-year warranty.
